When it comes to Christmas lighting, some people would say less is more. Others would heartily disagree and say the more the merrier! Really, the amount that is used is up to the individual. Come to think of it, the houses that are adorned from rooftop to basement with illuminations and animation are the ones people flock to year after year to see.

When Christmas lighting is done right it can be pleasing to just about everyone. Some people feel intimidated when it comes to illuminating the house for the holidays, but one doesn't need to feel that way because it is not as intimidating as it may seem. On the other hand, illuminating the house is something many people look forward to doing every year.

There are so many options available as there are standard strands and multicolored strands to choose from, and they can be used in a variety of ways. Strands have settings that can make them flash, blink, chase, twinkle and much more.

There are net strands that are very useful for decorating shrubs and bushes, and some people even choose to wrap them around a tree trunk. There are icicles lights, swags and rope strands as well. Mixing the various types up can really add a unique decorating touch.

There are accessories one can add to their Christmas lighting as well. There is computer software available that can program them to do just about anything you could imagine. They can be displayed either by color or section of the yard to turn on and off, fade up or down, flash, twinkle, and just about anything else one could think of.

For people that are less tech savvy there are now systems that are much simpler, but offer similar effects. They plug into a standard outdoor outlet and then the strands are plugged into the system.

It may not offer all the bells and whistles that would come with a computer system, but it's a great way to go for less money, time, and still have a terrific looking yard. The best part with these systems is that it is all programed to music. Talk about spreading the holiday cheer!

Christmas lighting doesn't have to just be focused on the front yard either. Many people now string rope lights down their fence line. This is easy to do since they tend to offer much longer lengths than traditional strands. They can also handle multiple strands being strung together, so it can cover quite a large space on one socket.

Illuminating the inside of the home can be an easy way to add some holiday cheer to the interior as well. Besides stringing them on the tree, try putting strands of clear or colored bulbs in the garland that is used on the mantle, banister, or over a doorway.

There are battery powered options as well, and they would be a great addition to a floral table decoration. Of course, the ever popular LED's are making great strides in the holiday decor category as well. They are becoming more popular as they become more and more like traditional strands with more appealing sizes and colors.

They also consume far less energy, costing a lot less on the electricity bill. Christmas lighting is a wonderful way to fill your home with a welcoming atmosphere that will be inviting to all that come to visit.
